On 6 November 2025, CaaS Nordic participated in DigiLog4, organised in cooperation with Traficom, ITS Finland, LOGY and Limowa. The event was held at the Botta Ballroom in Helsinki and brought together representatives from business, research and the public sector to discuss how digitalisation, automation and data-driven solutions are reshaping logistics in Finland and across the Baltic Sea region.

This year’s theme, “Logistics Digitalisation and Success Stories”, focused on practical progress, answering how organisations are implementing new technologies to enhance efficiency, transparency and resilience in logistics operations. The event was also part of the EU-funded eFTI4EU project’s communication activities, supporting the exchange of knowledge and experiences on electronic freight transport information (eFTI).

The event was opened by Jarkko Saarimäki, Director-General of Traficom, who spoke about the benefits of digitalisation through cooperation and security. He underlined that the cyber threat level remains high across sectors, including logistics, and stressed that digital resilience and collaboration are essential for Finland’s competitiveness and preparedness.

Highlights from the programme

The DigiLog4 programme featured a range of expert presentations showcasing real examples of how digitalisation is transforming logistics:

  • Teemu Heikura (Fintraffic) presented the upcoming EU eFTI regulation and Finland’s progress toward creating a national eFTI Gate for digital freight data exchange. His talk encouraged supply chain stakeholders to start their digital journey now to ensure readiness ahead of the 2027 deadline.
  • Tommi Voss (Finnair Cargo) shared “Finnair Cargo’s Journey of Change”, describing how the company navigated multiple disruptions, from the COVID-19 pandemic to airspace closures, while transforming its operations and data processes.
  • Karri Rantasila (Lassila & Tikanoja) discussed “Digitalisation Opportunities for Circular Economy Operators”, highlighting how digital tools support waste management optimisation, route planning, and customer transparency.
  • Madis Sassiad (GScan) introduced the company’s MuonFlux™ scanning technology, a novel method using cosmic ray muons for non-invasive cargo and structural inspection, offering safer and more accurate alternatives to traditional X-ray scanning.
  • Dr. Mikael Lind (RISE) presented the Virtual Watchtower (VWT) concept, an emerging global data-sharing platform designed to improve supply chain visibility and collaboration by aggregating real-time shipment data from multiple sources.
  • Riku Ilomäki (Flowertrucks) shared insights from the company’s SME eFTI pilot project, part of the EU-funded eFTI4EU initiative, demonstrating how small and medium-sized transport operators can adopt digital freight documentation in cooperation.
  • Jan Bergstrand (Swedish Ministry of Infrastructure) provided a Nordic perspective on cross-border eFTI cooperation, emphasising the importance of harmonised standards and collaboration among authorities and businesses.

The event also featured a panel discussion on how digital infrastructure and data interoperability can strengthen logistics competitiveness throughout the Baltic Sea region.
